What is ARIN?
ARIN (American Registry for Internet Numbers) is the regional internet registry (RIR) responsible for managing IP address allocation and ASN assignment in the United States, Canada, and many Caribbean and North Atlantic territories. ARIN maintains authoritative records of who owns or operates each IP block.
Regional Internet Registries (RIRs)
| RIR | Region | RDAP Endpoint |
|---|---|---|
| ARIN | North America | rdap.arin.net |
| RIPE NCC | Europe / Middle East | rdap.db.ripe.net |
| APNIC | Asia Pacific | rdap.apnic.net |
| LACNIC | Latin America | rdap.lacnic.net |
| AFRINIC | Africa | rdap.afrinic.net |
Frequently Asked Questions
What does ARIN lookup tell me?
It shows you the registered network name, owning organization, allocated CIDR blocks, registration date, and contact handles for abuse reporting.
Can I look up non-US IPs with this tool?
The ARIN RDAP endpoint will redirect queries to the appropriate RIR (RIPE, APNIC, etc.) via the bootstrap process, so most IPs worldwide will return data.
How is ARIN lookup different from IP Geolocation?
IP Geolocation estimates the physical location of an IP based on routing data. ARIN lookup returns the official registration record — who owns the block, not where it physically routes.
